The Magic Wand Project

Making dreams come true!

Local event and wedding planning companies Events of Sophistication and Black Bag Productions are proud to present "The Magic Wand Project."   Our mission is to provide formal and semi-formal attire for underprivileged young men and women to wear to their junior and senior proms.  This is a special time of year for high schoolers and during senior activities, and The Magic Wand Project strives to help parents make their high schooler's dream of having it all come true.

UPDATE!! Posted Monday, April 16, 2012

ALL information for the 2012 prom season is on this page ONLY!

Our 2012 date for drop off for donations will be on Sunday, April 22, from 12 to 4pm at the Holiday Inn-Laurel (off route 198 next door to Outback) and will be our ONLY date for the 2012 Magic Wand Parties when we give away prom attire and collect attire.  We wish we could do more days this year, but unfortunately, we have scheduling conflicts and are unable to at this time.  Thank you in advance to our donors, please review our guidelines below.  There will be no exceptions!  STUDENTS - bring an adult who can help you select your attire and accessories.  Thank you in advance for your cooperation everyone!

Prospective DONORS please note the following information:

1. All donations must be dry cleaned PRIOR to donating, (no exceptions, sorry!) this helps us give the attire away immediately.

2. All donations must be in wearable condition - no obvious stains, tears, or anything that you wouldn't wear yourself. We appreciate donations but keep in mind that we are trying to ensure that students who benefit from the donations we receive get gently used garments. We also accept new, with or without tags, attire - again, please be sure they are no more than 3 years old. WE DO NOT ACCEPT wedding gowns - please forward your wedding gowns to Wish Upon A Wedding (www.wishuponawedding.org).

3. Donations can be from size 0 to 26 and should be dresses that can be worn in the spring/summer (please no velvet or fall dresses). Students request pinks, yellows, lavender, turquoise and ivory/beige as well as navy and black. Gown (long) or cocktail length. Remember when donating that these are TEENS who are looking at the inventory (mostly 16 to 19 year olds) and donated attire should be fashionably elegant, fun and youthful. Donations should be NO MORE than 3 years old (2009 and newer). We also accept Men's black suits, tuxedos, tuxedo shirts, cuff links, ties, shoes; again fashionable and could be worn by young men aged 16 to 19 - we especially need items that fit slim/average build and height young men (Shoe donations are accepted: PLEASE BE SURE THEY ARE GENTLY WORN AND CLEAN- i.e., very little scuffing on leather, good condition heels, and, for ladies shoes - please ensure that they are NOT dirty inside (toe marks, etc.). Unfortunately, items that do not meet the noted criteria will not be accepted for our inventory to give away to students.

4. If you are available to help volunteer during our drop off or 2012 Magic Wand Party, please let us know! Send us an email with the amount of time you are available. We need help setting up (@11:00am)  and tearing down (@5:00pm), giving out receipts and helping students select appropriate attire (especially if mom or sister is not with them!) We really appreciate your generosity.

Bookmark our home page and check back often for updates! Thank you for helping us make dreams come true!
